I don’t know whether I am or not – I’ll tell you tomorrow.

We probably all are, to some extent, some of us more expert than others. It will always depend on the issue at hand, I suppose. I know that I am more prone to procrastinate in a matter which isn’t going to be pleasant or easy – even if I know that, in the long run, it will be good for me. I used to be a very heavy smoker, and I wanted to stop for so many years, but kept putting it off. Eventually my health became so bad that I had no alternative but to stop. Even then, I put it off until New Year’s Day! It wasn’t easy – I never thought it would be – but it wasn’t as hard as I imagined. 18 years later I am wealthier and healthier, and I sometimes wonder why I didn’t do it earlier.

But I still put things off, but perhaps more subtly.

I might just do that. I’ll get back to you. Maybe we can meet for coffee. I’m busy just now, but I will get it done.

I will. It’s the future tense, but it often doesn’t come with a display-until date, or a best-before date.

I will – but in many cases I’m not very willing.

The word “will” has a number of different meanings –

am (is, are, etc.) about or going to: I will be there tomorrow. She will see you at dinner.

am (is, are, etc.) disposed or willing to: People will do right.

am (is, are, etc.) expected or required to: You will report to the principal at once.

may be expected or supposed to: You will not have forgotten him. This will be right.

am (is, are, etc.) determined or sure to (used emphatically): You would do it. People will talk.
(Source)

But there’s another definition. It’s the one where it is a promise which you know will never be broken. It’s a guarantee, a word that you can trust in, rely on.

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”
( Ps 91:14-16, NLT)

Have a look again. There are no maybes, no perhapses. The only might that is there is the might, the strength, of the One who WILL.

When you are in trouble and can’t see a way out, turn to him, because where there’s His will there’s a way.

Are you a procrastinator?
