Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.
Psalms 50:14-15 NLT

God tells us that his ways are not our ways. It can be seen in this passage.

Our natural way of doing things is really quite selfish: someone does something for us and then we thank him. We might be really polite and say ‘please’ when we want someone to do something for us, but we only say ‘Thank you’ after the event.

In these verses, though, we are told to give thanks, then to ask, then we will receive!

God has done so many things for me, and I have many reasons to thank him, but here he is telling me to thank him for the things he hasn’t yet done and saying that if I do thank him for them beforehand the I shall receive them. Why is that?

It’s called faith!
